THE PRO-FAMILY POLICIES IN THE AUTONOMOUS PROVINCE OF TRENTO (ITALY)
Luciano Malfer

The birth rate of the Autonomous Province of Trento are better than the national data, but still worrying, well below the replacement of generations. In 2011 the Autonomous Province of Trento approved a law on family well-being by setting up a specific agency for the family, to create an integrated system of family policies, essentially involving all provincial policies.

The Provincial Government approved in 2019 a specific Strategic Legislature Plan, to create the conditions of trust necessary to put families and young people in the conditions to carry out their life projects. The goal of the legislature is to increasingly qualify the Province of Trento as a family-friendly territory, that is, welcoming and attractive for families and for those who interact with them. The areas of intervention of the strategic and extraordinary legislative plan are five: (1) introducing income support for families; (2) facilitate access to conciliation services, mainly to support female employment; (3) develop the Trento Family Quality System; (4) widen the opportunities for young adults to foster the process of independence from the parental family; (5) strengthen family and extra-family networks and family associations.
